The author, Christopher Carlin is the Chief Deputy of Uniformed Operations with the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, with more than 24 years of law enforcement experience. From 2000 to 2004 Carlin served as Superintendent for the Niagara Falls Police Department.

Chief Deputy Carlin began his law enforcement career with the United States Army Military Police in Germany. He joined the sheriff’s department in 1982 as a road patrol deputy. He served in that position until 1989 when he was promoted to Sergeant. That year, he became the first Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer and established the D.A.R.E. Program in Niagara County. In 1994 he was promoted to Investigator in the Criminal Investigation Bureau. In 2004, Sheriff Thomas Beilein appointed Carlin to the position of Chief Deputy.

Chief Deputy Carlin is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the FBI Law Enforcement Leadership Development Course at Quantico, Virginia. He has obtained his Associates in Applied Sciences Degree in Criminal Justice from Niagara County Community College (NCCC) and a Bachelor of Sciences Degree from Empire State College in Criminal Justice Public Administration, where he received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award. In 2003 Carlin received the NCCC Distinguished Alumni Award. The Buffalo State Criminal Justice Alumni Association named Carlin the outstanding Criminal Justice Professional for 2003. He was also a graduate of Leadership Niagara, Class of 2005...The "Best" Class.  

Christopher Carlin is a thirty year veteran of the military, serving on active duty with the U. S. Army from 1976 to 1979. He has served in the NY Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve since 1981. Carlin is assigned as a special agent with the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations at Hill AFB, Utah. Following September 11th, 2001, he was activated and mobilized to assignments in Georgia, Washington D. C. and Salt Lake City for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. He was activated from March to September 2006 and proudly served in Baghdad, Iraq with the multi-agency task force, Joint Interagency Task Force-High Valued Individuals (JIATIF-HVI).
